Glasgow Tech Hub Welcomes Innovative IT Business

Published on: 21.09.2016

A leading IT and business processing firm has become the latest tenant to join an award-winning technology and innovation hub in the heart of Glasgow.

CGI IT UK has let the entire second floor of the inovo building, which was purpose-built by Scottish Enterprise to offer high-quality Grade A office space to technology and renewables businesses and has been commended by the British Council of Offices as a best in class commercial office development. The property sits alongside the University of Strathclyde’s Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) and form a first phase of development in this emerging technology and innovation zone.

Despite the letting policy being aimed at the technology and renewables sector, interest in the building has been high since it opened in January 2014 and it was 40% pre-let upon completion. Bilfinger GVA acted as sole letting agents for the entire building and with CGI taking 9,370 sq ft, only one 2,400 sq ft suite is still to be let. The rents achieved to date have been in the region of £22.50 psf.
Alison Taylor, Director of Bilfinger GVA, says CGI is the latest technology company to join an exciting cluster of businesses locating in inovo and in this emerging innovation zone “The building’s convenient location close to Queen Street Station and with the amenities of the Merchant City on its doorstep, are prime attractions to tenants over and above the advantages of the technology and academic hub that has been created. Built specifically to provide Grade A office space for these industries to innovate and develop smart technologies, inovo is a first for Glasgow in many ways and shows how the public sector can through property initiatives attract new business investment in to the city’s economy – Scottish Enterprise should in my opinion be congratulated for this outstanding regeneration and job creation stimulus in the city”.

“Though the property is near fully let, it’s interesting to note that not all tenants so far have acquired garaged car spaces, preferring to practice what they preach. This is fitting given that inovo is one of Glasgow’s greenest buildings and was the first in the city to achieve an EPC rating of A and BREEAM Excellent credentials. Alison Taylor feels this is a trend that is set to continue with more and more new developments focusing on cycling facilities over cars.”
